78 - Family Business & Other Distractions
The sunrise kept changing every few minutes — first barely visible through the clouds, then suddenly bright and clear, and finally caught behind the branches of a dry tree. Three quite different versions of the same sun, all within a very short time.
A Squacco Heron with a very successful catch — and a fish that looks almost comically oversized for it. Getting it out of the water was clearly only half the job; figuring out what to do with it next seemed to require some thought.
The youngster is getting seriously big now — almost enough to pass for one of the adults at first glance. One parent was keeping close, while the other was wandering around further behind, just a little too far away to fit the whole family into one frame.
And the cat, meanwhile, appears to have appointed itself official observer of the family business.
A young eagle sitting unusually low and giving me plenty of time to look at it — with the sun still fighting its way through a thick layer of clouds behind. For a moment it looked much more like the moon, which made the whole scene even stranger.
