Around UAE 76
A rare kind of sunrise for the UAE. The sky was covered with textured clouds, with breaks of light coming through in places and reflecting across the still water. On top of that, there was a strange, almost mystical haze hanging over the lakes, softening the trees and shoreline and giving the whole scene a very unusual atmosphere.
For a while, the landscape itself was more interesting than the birds. The light kept changing, the reflections shifted, and every few minutes the same view looked completely different. Mornings like this do not happen very often here, which made it worth stopping for the wider scenes before reaching for the longer lens.
Later, the birds gradually became the focus — flamingos, herons and a few other visitors around the water. But looking back at the photographs, it is probably the combination of clouds, haze and that strange early light that I will remember most from this morning.
